Our Concerns
Irresponsible Spending
Why spend 1.3+ million dollars to purchase and tear down residential properties? Why not use some of the 30-plus acres of public land CUSD 220 already owns? Why not use the CUSD 220 Administration parking lot with a hired safety officer during events?
Why wasn't this in Referendum 2024? How did they not know at that time that they needed 40 more parking spaces?
Increased Taxes
Won't residents' taxes increase when four fewer homes are contributing to the tax base?
Won't residents' taxes increase when the surrounding properties are devalued, thereby contributing less in taxes?
Spot Zoning
If this is about 40 parking spaces, why is CUSD 220 appraising another property on N Hager Ave?
What's preventing CUSD 220 from buying up homes next to Hough Street Elementary, Grove Avenue Elementary, Sunny Hill Elementary, Roslyn Road Elementary or other neighborhood schools in CUSD 220?
How does rezoning this space from residential to public land align with Barrington's Comprehensive Plan, which strives to "maintain the existing scale and character of each neighborhood and to minimize encroachment..."?
